Welcome to the website of the Lonesome Pine Radio Control Flyers.
Our southwest Virgina R/C flying club and field is located in Pound VA. We serve the nearby Virginia areas such as Big Stone Gap,Wise, Norton, and Coeburn. We’re a small club of flying enthusiasts with members ranging from newbies to seasoned flyers. We enjoy flying everything from scratch built foam airplanes to multi rotor copters and scale aircraft. Whether you’re brand new to the hobby or a seasoned veteran flyer, we’re sure you’ll find our club to be friendly, inviting and helpful. We invite you to visit us online or at the flying field.
Drones, quads, gassers, electrics, foamies and even diy foamboarders.....
We welcome all types of rc aircraft
Electric RC Planes
The thrill of flying electric RC planes is an exhilarating experience that every hobbyist should dive into! The excitement doesn’t just stop at flying; it extends into customizing your plane, participating in local clubs, and even competing in events! The community around electric RC planes is vibrant and welcoming, offering endless opportunities to learn and grow as a pilot. So grab your controller, choose your favorite model, and take to the skies—adventure awaits!
Quads and Drones
The world of high-tech drones is buzzing with excitement, and it’s easy to see why! Whether you’re a seasoned pro or just a hobbyist looking to explore the skies, brands like DJI are leading the charge in transforming how we experience aerial photography and videography. The latest quad models are not just about flying; they’re about capturing breathtaking vistas from angles that were once only dreamt of!
Big Ole' Gassers too
For hobbyists and enthusiasts alike, these magnificent machines offer an exhilarating experience that combines skill, creativity, and sheer joy. Many love the process of building their own large-sized gas-powered plane. The satisfaction of seeing your creation take flight is unparalleled! And let’s not forget about the adrenaline rush when you pull off those daring maneuvers—it's a testament to your growing skill as a pilot. So grab your tools and fuel up; it’s time to unleash the excitement of gas-powered RC planes and watch your dreams take flight!
You're invited to visit us
We love having visitors and invite you to come out and meet our club members! Bring the family and/or friends and we will show you what our hobby is all about. Note however that parking space is limited. Visitors are categorized into one of three specific groups, so plan accordingly.
Spectators:
You’re always welcome to come out and watch us fly. For your safety, spectators should park beyond the landing field and must remain off of the flight line and landing field. As a spectator only, you are NOT required to be an AMA member.
Pilots in Training:
Flight training is free to everyone. Pilots in training do not qualify as club members and must have ALL flights supervised, via buddy-box control, by our club designated trainer. Although pilots in training are not required to pay membership dues, we certainly welcome club donations. Pilots in Training are allowed five training visits on our club flying field. Hopefully, by the fifth visit, trainees will choose to become a full club member. Pilots in Training should park behind the flight line so as to allow our club members ample parking near the flight line and landing field.
Guest Pilots:
Are you visiting us from out of town and would like to fly with us??? AMA registered guest pilots are allowed three annual visits to the flying field. Guest pilots must present their AMA membership card and valid ID when visiting the field.
For information on when and where you can visit us during flights sessions please contact us at:
